Some new stuff

November 30, 2009 jimmysjogren Leave a comment

Just got my LBT-1562B sold so I figured I’d buy some things for some of the cash from that.

First up I bought the level 1 from ADS Gen III shirt and drawers. Now I have both level 1 and level 2 which is just perfect in cold conditions and I can drop all other no-name clothes! ;)

Next up is the classic bivy bag from Tenniers Industries with Goretex layer which is perfect if no tent is available and it might get a bit rainy!

Next is a pair of Tennessee Apparel Corp ECWCS Goretex pants, also great when you’re on wet ops!

And last the Peckham POLARTEC beanie. Like I wrote a couple of posts back, I lost my previous hat so now I need a new so what is there to think about?

Surefire X300 weapon light

November 30, 2009 jimmysjogren 2 comments

As some of you know almost all, especially Navy SEAL operators, has stopped using the Surefire M951 weapon light and almost the AN/PEQ2 too but that’s a another story.

A couple of months ago I bought myself the Surefire M951 weapon like and as all the other things I buy out of referens from SEAL pictures I though it was cool and of course light, but it’s very bulky and weights a lot compared to the current, more used and issued light Insight Technoligy M3X that you can see being used more and more among the SEAL operators nowadays. The positive thing about this light is that you can have it both on the AR15 KAC RAIL and on your P226R pistol.

I haven’t bought the light myself yet since my primary weapon is being worked on at the moment and as soon as the seasons starts for real it’s going up on my prio list of course. The most common colour of the light is of course the tan but also, finaly, I found a picture of someone who uses the black model.

Edit: The light in the picture is actually a Surefire X300. Thank you Devin at Insight Tech!

What is what? SFLCS, MLCS, FSBE2 etc

November 19, 2009 jimmysjogren Leave a comment

I guess this is something people are wondering about and it’s not very easy to keep on track regarding all the real and the repro stuff out there.

There’s plenty of stuff out there and plent of makers. The real gear manufacturs when it comes to Marines, Navy SEALs and Special Forces it’s Eagle mostly that is used.

So what’s what…

MLCS – Maritime Load Carriage System
Colour is MJK being used by Navy SEALs. There’s different generations on this, as I have written in previous posts but the default colour is MJK.

S(O)FLCS – Special Forces Load Carriage System
Colour is MJK and used by US Special Forces and it’s not being used by US Navy SEALs.

RLCS – Ranger Load Carriage System
Colour is Ranger Green and used by 75th Rangers.

DFLCS – Defensor Fortis Load Carriage System
Colour is OD, ACU or ACUPAT and used by AF Security.

FSBE2 – Full Spectrum Battle Equipment 2
Colour is CB and used by MARCSOC and Marines.

Edit: Added some information regarding DFLCS.

What’s so special about Orc Industries Level 5?

November 19, 2009 jimmysjogren Leave a comment

As some or most of you guys know the PCU level 5 is the most popular clothing ever when it comes to SEAL equipment. When you run info it and look at the price (except fot the retail price) you wonder what’s so special about this clothing and why so expensive.

I managed to find some more info that I thought be useful to share. The special material that is used on these PCU level 5 is the EPIC material from Nextec.

Here’s some more useful information regarding all seven layers from Ord Industries.

Wearing the PCU is a matter of mixing and matching the gray garments according to the anticipated conditions and activities of the user. Comfort levels range from -50°F to 45°F, and although there are seven levels of protection, clothing in each level is not progressively added or removed the colder or warmer the environment.

Level 1

A durable, silkweight Polartec Power Dry fabric worn next to the skin wicks away moisture and dries fast. It consists of a crew neck T-shirt and boxer shorts, or is available in long-sleeve top with invisible zipper and pants, built for comfort and minimal weight.

Level 2

A long-sleeve shirt and pants made from Polartec Power Dry fabric are worn next to the skin for extra warmth in extreme conditions, but still wicks away moisture quickly from skin and dries fast. An inserted side panel of Polartec X-Static fabric enhances fit and flexibility. The top has a front 15-inch zip for extra venting and a soft lining around the collar. Comfort features include an articulated side seam on the pants to minimize chafe on the kneecap.

Level 3

An insulative mid-layer jacket made from Polartec Thermal Pro High Loft fabric is water-repellent yet breathable. It is worn as an outer jacket in mild temperatures or as a heavy insulative layer in extreme cold. Seamless shoulders minimize chafe, which are then lined for extra warmth and padding for heavy pack straps.

Level 4

The soft windshirt is made from an encapsulated microfiber that repels water but also breathes for a variety of conditions. It is designed to pair with a next-to-skin layer for intense activity in cooler temperatures or with the Level 5 soft shell as a mid-layer. It stuffs into its own pocket for easy packing.

Level 5

The key to the entire system, this soft shell fabric jacket and pants are made with fibers encapsulated with silicone that are highly stretchable, windproof, water repellant and breathable (EPIC by Nextec). They are paired with Level 1 or 2 next-to-skin layers, ready for any cold weather aerobic activity.

Level 6

A lightweight waterproof and coated nylon hard shell is slightly oversized to fit easily and quickly over gear. The jacket features water-resistant zippers and armpit zips for maximum ventilation, pocket openings to quickly access inside layers and a hood that incorporates a stiff brim. The pants borrow the same design from Level 5 but provide waterproof protection.

Level 7

For extreme conditions, this lightweight, loft-insulated level in a jacket, vest and pants has the feel of down but retains its warmth when wet. Silicone-encapsulated fabric sheds water and is paired with Primaloft insulation for maximum warmth while the liner pulls away moisture.

M4 SOPMOD Block 2

November 18, 2009 jimmysjogren Leave a comment

Thought I’d write some about the Block II since it’s the new block assigned to SEALs and SOF. I’ll provide a complete list of all items including but I’ve to do some re-search first. If someone knows or has the hole list please give me a comment :)

From Elcan.com:

ELCAN SpecterDR deployed to US Special Operations and Navy Seals

Development of the SpecterDR 1x-4x:

In 2003 the US SOCOM started to upgrade its fire control accessories for the M4 Carbine.   The key technological objective for the day optic was – “to provide not only a long-range deliberate aiming capability, but also a short range, positive, rapid aiming capability for Close Quarters Battle…in a single sight” – a critical issue in urban combat.

ELCAN Optical Technologies met this need by proposing and demonstrating SpecterDR, a high performance switchable 1x- 4x dual-field-of-view (DFOV) combat optic.  Its potential established, ELCAN incorporated user feedback driven spiral improvements that resulted in a series of design features that made the SpecterDR match the operational needs of soldiers better than any competitive offering.  Clever design and rigorous testing further optimized how the sight performed as a subsystem of the weapon.
In full and open competition with 5 Operational Trials against alternative sighting solutions, the ELCAN SpecterDR was awarded 100% of the SOPMOD production requirements.  Users favored the SpecterDR 9-to-1 over any competitive offerings while test data showed that it outperformed legacy solutions. By achieving the SOCOM objective, SpecterDR has eliminated the need to switch between sights in-combat by combining for the war fighter

a true unity (1.0X) power for both eyes open close combat, and 4X magnification for precision aiming combat in a single light weight package.

In addition to the day operation benefits, SpecterDR has also allowed SOCOM to achieve the full benefits of its clip-on night vision device (CNVD) strategy.   Operators are vulnerable when they are switching between optics and the act of switching also always carries the risk of impairing bore sight accuracy.   Using a CNVD eliminates the need to switch between a day optic and a night vision sight since the CNVD simply “clips-on” in front of the day optic.   With SpecterDR, operators now never need to switch between optics and they never have to second guess about their weapon system accuracy.  SpecterDR is given the designation SU-230/PVS in the SOPMOD Block 2 kit (right).

No new gear but some new updates regarding the TEA PTT

November 17, 2009 jimmysjogren Leave a comment

Not much that’ve happened lately.

I am still waiting on a lot of stuff to arrive from the states such as AI SFLCS MBITR, EI SFLCS Canteen, EI MLCS Butt pack, TEA PTT, OR PRO MOD gloves, MSA MICH TC-2000 and PCU level 5 pants.

I never wrote anything about the PTT I bought which I couldn’t identify. I’ve mailed TEA and I’ve got an answer from a person who was actually very nice and helpful.

The model of this PTT is ‘U92VP-P3-8FT’ and it’s not a normal model. It’s a type of E type PTT but not the exact same model. I didn’t get an exact price but I got at least a “they are several hundred US dollars each” at least.

More updates when the items arrives.

Finaly a MSA MICH TC-2000

November 12, 2009 jimmysjogren 2 comments

Who doesn’t need a MSA MICH TC-2000? – I DO!

Since I had a repro helmet before which I thought was ok and I always thought “why do you need a real helmet when not even throwing real bullets and THAT big of a difference can’t it be?!” – Well it is! A huge difference! The pads is no-where the same, the size even tho it’s medium (I’m a X-small in clothes basicly) and fits me perfectly and the chinstraps is actually placed in the middle and not in the chin when you tighten it.

POLARTEC fleece beanie

November 10, 2009 jimmysjogren Leave a comment

On previous event I lost my hat for some odd reason and cannot find it now so I thought I’ll hunt for a new, and this time an issued and correct hat and not a cheap no-name hat at local sport shop. So I made some re-search and found at that at these recent SEAL training pictures on Alaska they’re wearing the POLARTEC beanie manufactured by Peckham.

Test setup for H-harness

November 7, 2009 jimmysjogren Leave a comment

Yeasterday I made quick setup for my H-Harness just to test out with the new M249 pouch.

I can’t have a final setup because I’m missing my butt pack that will arrive soon so until then I can’t really say this vest will ever be final and completely done.

But until then I think I’ll go with this current setup. Missing in the picture is the PTT and TASC-1 headset, currently modifying the PTT so it’ll work properly with my radio.
